Diabetes :: Alternative Therapies for Diabetes

Alzheimer’s Disease :: Clinical Diagnosis of Alzheimer?s Disease

In a study of people with mild cognitive impairment (MCI), those who took the drug donepezil were at reduced risk of progressing to a diagnosis of Alzheimer?s disease (AD) during the first year of the trial, but by the end of the 3-year study there was no benefit from the drug. Vitamin E was also tested in the study and was found to have no effect at any time point in the study when compared with placebo.

Vitamin E :: Vitamin E decreases risk of Lou Gehrig’s Disease

Regular users of vitamin E were at decreased risk for death from Lou Gehrig’s disease, also called amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), compared with nonusers. Given that vitamin E is an antioxidant, the new findings support the hypothesis that oxidants play a key role in the development of ALS. Moreover, the results are consistent with earlier findings showing that increased brain levels of vitamin E seem to delay the onset of ALS in lab animals.
