Campaigning for first phase of Lok Sabha polls ends in Assam

Campaigning for the first phase of Lok Sabha elections will come to an end today for five seats in Assam and one in Tripura. Polling for these constituencies will be held on Monday from 7am to 5pm.

In Assam, 1st phase of polling will cover Jorhat, Lakhimpur, Dibrugarh, Koliabor and Tezpur. Most of the candidates are engaged in door-to-door canvassing. Rallies are also being taken out to woo the voters. Over 64 lakh voters are eligible to decide the fate of 51 candidates. Asom Gana Parishad, BJP and Congress have fielded candidates in all the five seats.

Aam Aadmi Party, AIUDF and Left parties are also in the fray.

Star campaigners of the national and regional parties addressed rallies in support of their candidates.

Congress candidates have highlighted on the development that Assam has achieved during last 13 years while Opposition parties targeted the Congress led UPA government on alleged price rise and corruption issues.

Local issues like killing of rhinos, illegal migration, employment generation and flood and erosion have also been figured in campaign.
