Skin Care :: Skin Care Product Trends in Japan

Japanese market researcher Fuji Keizai has published a report on the trends of skin care products in Japan. The report, which surveyed 23 major cosmetics manufactures in Japan, estimates that the Japanese skin care product market reached 522.4 billion yen ($4.5 bil) in 2004. The market is expected to reach 531.4 billion yen ($4.6 bil) in 2005.

Specifically, the newly-launched products accounted for 18.7% of the market in 2004, reaching 97.8 billion yen ($843 mil), while the segment share slipped to 17.6% in 2005, falling to 93.4 billion yen ($805 mil)).

Although the types of skin care product that comprise the market have remained about the same over the past 10 years, the market is likely to show steady growth with the introduction of specialty-care products characterized by ingredients such as Coenzyme Q10, collagen and hyaluronic acid.

Entitled Market Trend Data of Skin Care New Product 2005-2006, the 197-page report sells for 100,000 yen ($860). It is available only in Japanese.
