Homeopathic doctors have claimed a cheap and effective treatment for dengue that has killed at least 26 people in the Indian capital and infected around 2,000. Homeopathy in dengue fever, Prevention of Dengue Fever
“The benefit of using homeopathy is that the medicine can be used for prevention as well as treating a positive dengue case,” said Dr. K.K. Aggarwal, executive vice chairman of the Heart Care Foundation of India.
“A dengue nosode is prepared by using the blood of a dengue positive patient. One drop of blood of such a patient is potentised to 30 potency by a standard potentisation technique.”
Dr. Aggarwal said he has used the therapy on 50 patients who were confirmed dengue cases. He said that 12 hours after receiving the oral dose, the blood platelet count of patients stabilised.
The Delhi government’s health department is aware of such a remedy and has also reposed faith in it but the common man doesn’t seem to know of it.
“The awareness levels are low because homeopathy is only for those who trust this form of medicine,” said Dr. R.K. Manchanda, deputy director (homoeopathy), of the Directorate of Indian System of Medicine and Homoeopathy.
“Unlike allopathic medicines, homeopathic medicines are not tested to the levels set by the World Health Organisation (WHO). Thus publicity is kept low,” said Dr. Manchanda, who is also a homeopathic doctor.
However, Dr. Manchanda is confident of homeopathy’s ability to cure dengue.
According to him, nine homeopathic units have been set up in various government-run allopathic hospitals in Delhi.
