Dementia :: Eating fish regularly delays dementia

Martha Clare Morris of Rush University Medical Center in Chicago reports that a six-year study demonstrates that eating fish at least once a week slows down age-related mental decline.

Scientists believe that the omega-3 fatty acids in fish cut the risk of stroke, protect the brain from the effects of aging and improve brain function.

In a separate study, Miia Kivipelto of the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, and team, reexamined nearly 1,500 participants in a study that had begun in 1972 and found that that obesity, hypertension and high cholesterol at midlife each double the likelihood of future dementia.
