Vitamin D :: Vitamin D can reduce elders’ fractures

Vitamin D supplements can prevent fractures in men and women aged over 65 years, according to a new study in British Medical Journal (BMJ). Researchers identified 2,686 people (2,037 men and 649 women) aged between 65 to 85 years living in the community.

It was later found that the participants in the vitamin D treatment group had a 22 percent lower rate for first fracture at any site and a 33 percent lower rate for a fracture occurring in common osteoporotic sites (hip, wrist or forearm, or vertebrae).
