Healthcare :: Irish Hospital Consultants will not co-operate new consultant appointments

The Irish Hospital Consultants Association has declared not to co-operate the recruitment process for hospital consultants by the Health Service Executive (HSE).

The Health Service Executive (HSE) is commencing a recruitment campaign for hospital consultants under a contract that has been universally rejected by the profession in Ireland.

It has been rejected because:

– The doctor will not have clinical independence to act in your patient?s best interest

– The doctor will not be allowed to advocate on behalf of your patients

– The HSE will decide how, where and when the doctor will practice medicine

– As existing consultants will not be changing their practices, the doctor will be expected to work mostly at nights and at weekends for the first number of years of your appointment

– The doctor’s rate of pay will be less than that of existing consultants

Doctors are urged NOT TO APPLY for these posts until such time as an agreement is reached on a new contract.

IHCA consultants will not be co-operating with any aspect of the recruitment process for any position under this imposed contract.
