Health :: Highlighting men’s health in November – Australia

Men around Australia are being asked to “grow a mo” as part of Movember, a charity event held during November each year. The theme for Movember is “changing the face of men’s health”.

Movember participants register with a clean shaven face and then have the remainder of November to grow their moustache and along the way raise as much money and awareness about male health issues as possible.

The aim of Movember is to redress the lack of awareness about the very real health issues faced by men. The average life expectancy for men is six years less than women. A reluctance to see a doctor about an illness or for regular medical checks is part of the problem. Men access health services 30-40% less than women, thereby denying themselves the chance for prevention and early detection of common diseases.

In partnership with the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia and Beyond Blue, Movember is highlighting prostate cancer, testicular cancer and male depression as key health issues for men.
