The Election Commission has warned internet companies against misuse of the popular platform by political parties during election campaign.
In a letter to Internet and Mobile Association of India and Chief Grievance Officers of all major social networking sites, the poll body has also asked the internet sites to inform the Commission regarding the expenditure incurred by political parties and candidates on political advertisements as and when demanded.
Election Commission has emphasised to Internet based media and social media that they should be conscious of what are the laws that applied to electronic media in terms of used by political parties and candidate and abide by them for example every political party and candidate needs to get their political advertisement pre-certified before these are put on electronic media.
The same will apply to social media and Internet based media.
