Diet :: Do you know where the food on your plate comes from?

David Miliband joined Tony Blair and celebrity chef Lesley Waters (Ready Steady Cook) at 10 Downing St for the launch of a campaign to encourage people to ask where their food comes from when they’re out for a meal.

The Country Land and Business Association’s Just Ask campaign is designed to increase food service providers’ knowledge of where their food originates. David Fursdon, CLA president, said:

?The UK imports over ?20 billion worth of food each year. The Just Ask campaign aims to use consumer pressure to help ensure we end up with more British food on our plates, increasing the amount of local suppliers and producers in the UK food chain. British food ensures British farms and local producers have a fuure and can continue to provide the countryside we all enjoy.?

David Miliband said: “Whether you are eating in a roadside caf? or at a Michelin star restaurant I think there is something satisfying about knowing where the food on your plate comes from and the sense of connection that comes from eating local food.?
