Chikungunya :: Chikungunya declared notifiable disease – India

The Tamil Nadu government’s health department had declared Chikungunya as a ‘notifiable disease’ under the public health Act, 1939.

As per the recent Government Order, chikungunya has been listed along with other notifiable diseases like dengue, cholera, malaria, typhoid, chicken pox and HIV/AIDS. The G.O. makes it mandatory for private hospitals to inform the government about incidents of chikungunya. Action could be taken against hospitals which failed to do so. It would also help control the vector borne disease..

Meanwhile, an official of the Indian Medical assoiciation suggested that similar orders be passed in other states. PTI
