Psychiatry :: First Mani Bhaumik Award to UW Scientist for Insights into Brain’s Neuroplasticity

The Cousins Center for Psychoneuroimmunology at UCLA has named University of Wisconsin’s Richard Davidson as the first recipient of The Mani Bhaumik Award. The award was established earlier this year to support scientists in the international community who advance the understanding of the brain and the conscious mind in healing through visionary research, books and education. Bhaumik, co-inventor of the laser technology that made LASIK surgery possible, has funded the annual $10,000 award.

DNA :: NHGRI Aims to Make DNA Sequencing Faster, More Cost Effective

Bethesda, Md. ? The National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI), part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), today announced the latest round of grant awards totaling more than $13.3 million to speed the development of innovative sequencing technologies that reduce the cost of DNA sequencing and expand the use of genomics in medical research and health care.

fifth Center of Excellence in Complex Biomedical Systems
Research. The new center, headed by David Botstein, Ph.D.,
at Princeton University in Princeton, N.J., will explore
how biological molecules interact with each other and their
environment to create dynamic systems.
