In Uttar Pradesh, the death toll due to encephalitis has mounted to 581 this year as five more children succumbed to the disease during past 24 hours in Baba Raghav Das Medical College Hospital in Gorakhpur.
Official sources reports that 18 fresh encephalitis patients have been admitted to the government hospitals of eastern UP during last 24 hours.
This year, as many as 2789 encephalitis cases have been reported in the government hospitals. More than 200 encephalitis patients are still being treated at these hospitals.
