Salmonella :: Queen Victoria brand spinach may contain salmonella

Canadians in the Atlantic provinces are being warned not to eat a U.S. brand of fresh spinach – Queen Victoria brand spinach that may be contaminated with salmonella bacteria.

A product of the United States, the Queen Victoria brand spinach has been removed from most stores as a Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) investigation continues.

But the product could still be in home refrigerators, said a CFIA news release issued late Sunday.

Consumers are advised to check their refrigerators for Queen Victoria brand fresh spinach sold in 10oz/284g packages, bearing the UPC code number 0 33383 65201 6, and a “Best Before” date of December 7, 2006.

No illnesses have been reported from eating the spinach, but the CFIA advises consumers to throw it out if they have the affected brand.
