Salmonella :: MCP recalls all Queso Cincho de Guerrero produced by Quesos Sabrosos Mexicanos

MCP is recalling the “Queso Cincho de Guerrero” produced by “Quesos Sabrosos Mexicanos” because it has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella, an organism which can cause serious and serious and sometimes infections in young children, frail or elderly people and others with weakened immune systems.

Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody) nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.

In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis, and Staphylococcus aureus which can cause nausea, retching, abdominal pain, diarrhea and prostration.

The recall of Queso Cincho de Guerrero produced by “Quesos Sabrosos” was distributed in Indiana, Michigan, Georgia, Texas, and Illinois in retail stores.

The dry hard Mexican cheese comes in wheels of 35# to 40#, and is labeled as “Quesos Sabrosos Mexicanos”.

No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this problem.

The potential for contamination was noted after routine testing by FDA of Salmonella and Staphylococcus aureus in the Queso Cincho.
