Indian National AIDS Control Programme-III (NACP-III) has commenced with effect from 1st April 2007 with a three-pronged strategy prevention, care & support including treatment and institutional strengthening.
In his opening remarks at the Third Meeting of the Mission Steering Group (MSG) of National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) in New Delhi, the Indian Minister for Health & Family Welfare, Dr. Anbumani Ramadoss said the NRHM has now completed two years and during this time the health sector in the country has seen far reaching changes.
Underlining focus on HIV/AIDS, polio and affordable and safe medicines, the Indian government said with National Rural Health Mission it has set in motion an improved access to quality healthcare for people, especially those living in rural areas, poor, women and children.
Speaking at the Florence Nightingale Awards for Nursing Personnel, the Indian Health And Family Welfare Minister, Dr. Anbumani Ramados said that under the National Rural Health Mission project, the country requires about 2 lakh nursing personnel to provide comprehensive health care.
The Indian Government has proposed to increase the allocation for the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) from Rs.8,207 crore in 2006-07 to Rs.9,947 crore in 2007-08.
