Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar has said that, there is a need to a change the mindset towards women in the society.
Addressing in an interactive session on woman empowerment and other issues in Kolkata she said India is a land of contradictions.
The goddess of wealth, education and Shakti is worshipped in the country, but the girl child is generally not educated.
Meira Kumar said that Parliament is the most powerful agent of social change and several laws already exist against dowry, un-touchability and domestic violence.
Meira Kumar said, we can make more stringent laws but no law can be more powerful than the mindset of the society.
