Five new-born, premature babies have been found to be carrying a strain of a hospital super bug and one infant has died in the same unit – the neonatal ward at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital.
The infants have been diagnosed with the bug Panton-Valentine Leukocidin positive Staphylococcus aureus (PVL positive S aureus).
The toxin, which is different from the MRSA strain identified in Stoke-on-Trent, can be treated with a range of antibiotics, the hospital said.
