Royal Philips (NYSE: PHG, AEX: PHI) will showcase innovative cardiac solutions designed to streamline workflow and facilitate advanced information management at Cardiovascular Research Foundation?s (CRF) eighteenth annual Transcatheter Cardiovascular Therapeutics (TCT) scientific symposium in Washington, D.C.Shown for the first time ever in the U.S., the pre-release of the Philips Xcelera 2.1 Cardiovascular Information Solution is one of the key components to Philips integrated catheterization (cath) lab, which includes physiomonitoring, reporting and cardiovascular X-ray technologies to improve patient care and lab management.
Philips will also highlight its newest interventional tool, the computed tomography (CT) TrueView software, through live demonstrations. Using 3D CT images in the cath lab, Philips CT TrueView can improve and streamline treatment planning for patients undergoing invasive procedures for stent placement and chronic total occlusions (CTO).
As cardiovascular disease steadily rises nationwide?the condition affects an estimated 71 million Americans?Philips is continually looking at innovative ways to integrate new interventional techniques and procedures to better diagnose and treat patients. Leveraging technologies including magnetic resonance (MR), healthcare informatics, CT and cardiovascular X-ray, Philips has developed patient-focused solutions to help cardiologists act earlier, react faster and make more accurate treatment decisions.
?We strive to bring ground-breaking technologies to market that will change how cardiovascular teams work, keeping in mind that they need to have the right tools at the right time for improved efficiency, effectiveness and comfort,? said Brent Shafer, executive vice president and CEO, North America, for Philips Medical Systems. ?New system options allow for a more tightly integrated cath lab, which reduces the risk for errors, provides more efficient patient care, adds clinical value and simplifies cardiology workflow, while allowing for better management of complex procedures.?
Philips Xcelera Release Enhances Image and Information Management
Shown as a pre-release at TCT 2006, Philips Xcelera 2.1 is the company?s next-generation cardiovascular image and information solution that integrates exam results from all key cardiovascular sub-specialties, including interventional cardiology, cardiovascular ultrasound, cardiac CT, nuclear cardiology, cardiac MR, electrophysiology (EP) recording signals, and electro-cardiographs (ECGs).
Designed to speed cardiovascular workflow and help enhance patient care, Xcelera 2.1 provides clinicians with access to relevant images and information on patients across the hospital from a single workspace. The new design of results management and availability of new and enhanced clinical tools help cardiac professionals to more efficiently diagnose a patient?s condition and subsequently make more informed decisions about the method of treatment.
Philips CTTrueView Demonstrations and Training
A live demonstration presented by Dr. John Carroll, chief of cardiology and director of Cardiac & Vascular Center, University of Colorado will showcase the Philips CT TrueView application. This software integrates CT into the cath lab by allowing 3D CT images to be transferred to the Philips Allura Xper FD cardiovascular X-ray system for improved visualization and treatment planning.
Demonstration to take place:
Wednesday, October 25, 2006 – Plenary Session 25 ? Live Case Session VI
University of Colorado Health Sciences Center
Time: 4:00 PM-4:30 PM
Location: Main Arena, Ballrooms ABC, Level 3
Philips Physician Training Center at TCT will allow presenters to review cases and provide physicians the opportunity to take part in hands-on learning at their own Brilliance Workspace. The training gives physicians the chance to familiarize themselves with 3D imaging and learn how to read the images.
Integrating technologies to enhance cath lab workflow
At TCT 2006, Philips will showcase its integrated cath lab solution, which presents tight connection between Philips advanced cardiovascular X-ray, physiomonitoring, reporting and cardiovascular information management systems. Cardiologists, clinicians and administrators can benefit from the integrated cath lab?s streamlined data, easy access to precise relevant images and information, and exceptional diagnostic and therapeutic imaging tools. Another advantage of the integrated cath lab is the simplicity of one comprehensive solution delivered, developed and supported by one company.
The Philips integrated cath lab features diagnostic and therapeutic interventional systems like the Allura Xper Flat Detector (FD) family of X-ray systems, which provide multimodality image integration. Designed to optimize cath lab efficiency, Xper allows physicians to view 2D, 3D and fluoroscopy alongside MR, CT, ultrasound and hemodynamic data.
Customizable for a variety of applications and available in several configurations, Philips Allura Xper FD20 and FD10 monoplane and the FD10/10 biplane systems allow interventional cardiologists to optimize the system to fit their practice. Tools such as Allura 3D-CA, which provides an instant accurate 3D model of the coronary arteries, deliver crucial insights for complex interventional procedures, while Philips unique StentBoost tool improves stent deployment visibility.
The Series IV physiomonitoring and information system, which was added to the Philips product portfolio through the recent acquisition of Witt Biomedical, is the second component of the integrated cath lab. This Philips solution provides comprehensive, accurate hemodynamic monitoring and analysis. It also features customizable electronic charting and robust transcription, clinical and statistical reporting. The system simplifies workflow and transforms data into accurate, useful and accessible information so physicians and clinicians can focus on patients. In 2005, this technology was named ?Best in KLAS? for Cardiology Reporting & Documenting and the KLAS Specialty Niche Category Leader for Cardiology Hemodynamics.[1]
The integrated cath lab also includes the Patient Care Monitor (PCM) and Central Station. The PCM is designed to monitor the patient?s vital signs and electronically chart the patient prior to and after the procedure. As a result, the data collected for reporting can encompass not only what occurs in the cath lab, but also what happens before and after the procedure.
To further streamline workflow in the cath lab, Philips has integrated Xcelera cardiovascular information management solution with the Patient Care Monitor and Series IV. The integrated PCM with Xcelera image review lets clinicians share cardiac images with patients and their families prior to and after procedures. Xcelera empowers users with the ability to combine the physiomonitoring and reporting of Series IV with the image management viewing, analysis and processing capabilities of Xcelera. Plus, Xcelera WebForum delivers anytime, anywhere access to Series IV reports, waveforms and images.
?Philips integrated cath lab brings ?sense and simplicity? to the cath lab, uniting X-ray, physiomonitoring, reporting and image management solutions that streamline lab operations. The patient and user benefits extend beyond the cath lab into the complete cardiovascular continuum of care,? added Shafer.
New MR Upgrades with Faster, More Accurate Analysis Tools
Philips Achieva Extended MR Workspace was upgraded to meet a growing demand for faster and more accurate comprehensive cardiac MR. Clinicians now benefit from fast, semi-automated analysis tools, while patients have the opportunity to experience non-invasive, low risk exams.
Additionally, with the industry asking for faster cardiac MR solutions, Philips technologies like kt-BLAST help speed up cardiac MR by a factor of five.
Providing Access to High Tech through Refurbished Systems
The Diamond Select Allura FD10 Xper refurbished system from Philips represents an ideal opportunity for healthcare facilities to extend their resources and still enjoy quality systems. It retains all the technology that has made the Allura the number one single-plane cardiovascular system, while adding a new generation X-Ray Generator, new image processing and a new user interface.
The Xper functionality enables a better workflow and improves operational efficiency by customizing every exam to match individual physician preferences. The seamless integration and patient data privacy capabilities of the system ensure that images and information are available wherever they are needed.
