HIV :: Voluntary counseling & HIV tests on the rise

More people are voluntarily getting tested for HIV, worldwide. Today, the department of health, South Africa revealed that more South Africans are voluntarily getting counselled and tested for HIV with figures rising annually.

Sibani Mngadi, the department’s spokesperson said 1 715 588 million people utilised the free voluntary counseling and testing (VCT) services between April 2005 and March 2006. “The trend is that it seems to be doubling every year,” Mngandi said.

A draft program for the World AIDS Day event on Dec. 1, issued by the health ministry, Africa on tuesday, suggested that the South African government would launch a new HIV/AIDS-combating strategy in 2007-2011.
