HIV :: AIDS treatment centres set up in Jammu, Srinagar

Two anti-retroviral treatment centres (ARTCs) for free treatment to AIDS patients have been set up in Jammu and Kashmir with 1,030 HIV positive cases reported in the state till date, PTI.

The two ARTCs had been started at Government Medical College Hospital here and at Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences in Srinagar, state health department officials said today.

They said 1,030 confirmed HIV positive cases had been reported from voluntary counselling and testing centres in various hospitals.

The department was implementing various components of the National Aids Control Programme as per the guidelines of National AIDS Control Organisation, they said.

They said 22 blood banks had been modernised to ensure safe supply for blood transfusion and 7 voluntary counselling centres and 8 testing centres also set up.
