Healthcare :: Tiff between AIIMS, Health Ministry intensifies – India

The tiff between the AIIMS and the U nion Health Ministry intensified further today with both exchanging letters on the controversial transfer of institute registrar to a rural healthcare centre.

The AIIMS administration is understood to have written to the Health Ministry questioning the authority under which a letter was issued rescinding its order to transfer Registrar V P Gupta on charges that he did not fulfill the eligibility criteria for the post.

Ministry officials have understood to have replied to the letter asking AIIMS authorities to implement its order staying the transfer of Gupta.

AIIMS administration loyal to Director P Venugopal had on Saturday issued an order transferring Gupta to the AIIMS rural centre in Ballabhgarh but the order was rescinded within 24 hours by the Ministry headed by A Ramadoss, who is opposed to Venugopal’s continuance.

The AIIMS authorities had sealed Gupta’s office yesterday in defiance of the Health Ministry directive putting his transfer on hold.
