Pediatrics :: Most children in US hospitals receive medicines off-label

Nearly four out of five hospitalized children receive medications that have been tested and approved only for adults, according to a study of hundreds of thousands of patient records. HIV :: Pfizer’s Maraviroc significantly reduces viral load in HIV patients

At this week’s major HIV/AIDS research meeting, Pfizer presented pivotal data of its experimental medicine, maraviroc, which tackles HIV in an entirely new way. A 24 week analysis showed that approximately twice as many patients receiving maraviroc with an optimized background regimen achieved undetectable virus in the blood than if an optimized regimen was given alone.

HIV :: Merck’s Isentress in combination with OBT well tolerated

Results from two ongoing Phase III studies of ISENTRESS? (raltegravir), an investigational oral integrase inhibitor, demonstrated significantly greater antiretroviral activity of ISENTRESS when used in combination with optimized background therapy (OBT) versus placebo plus OBT in treatment-experienced HIV-infected patients who had failed antiretroviral therapies (ARTs), and who had HIV virus resistant to at least one drug in each of the three available classes of oral ARTs.
