Education :: Disaster mgmt should be introduced in medical courses

Disaster preparedness and mangement needed to be introduced as a subject for medical courses, Karnataka Medical Education Minister Dr V S Acharya has said.

Inaugurating a three-day state level workshop on “Disaster preparedness and management”, here yesterday, he said there is also a need to introduce training programme for both medical and para-medical staff on advanced trauma and life support system as these were crucial after any disaster.

He also highlighted the need for proper coordination between various government agencies military, paramilitary and the voluntary groups in the management of disaster.

Dr Pruthveesh, Professor of Community Medicine at M S Ramaiah Medical College, Bangalore stressed the need for establishment of state level disaster management authortiy on the lines of national level authority.

Such authorities or groups also could be set up at district, taluk and village level to help mitigate the sufferings of people during any disaster.
