Court :: Wal-Mart Statement on Maryland Federal Court’s Decision

We are pleased that the U.S. Court of Appeals has affirmed the Maryland Federal Court?s decision. Not only was this legislation widely viewed as bad public policy, the courts have confirmed that it violates the law. This politically-motivated legislation did nothing to control the cost of health care or improve access to health care, so it?s no wonder that legislators across the country have rejected this as bad public policy.

We?re committed to finding real solutions to bring more affordable and accessible health care to our associates and working families across the country. That?s why we?re providing coverage to children of part-time associates, expanding the availability of our $11 per month Value Plan, establishing electronic health records for all associates, and offering generic prescription drugs for just $4 to all customers, regardless of their health coverage.

We are also proud that 90.4% of our associates are covered by health insurance. In fact, we are among the largest providers of private sector health insurance in the nation with more than 1 million people covered through our insurance.
