India to provide all treatment facilities to cancer patients – Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh

Indian Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh has said Government is committed to provide all treatment facilities in the country to cure cancer patients.

Addressing a gathering while inaugurating Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital and Research Centre at Mullanpur in Mohali district of Punjab, he said the government is also setting up a cancer registration center, which will connect to all 27 centres of the country.

Prime Minister said that Government is emphasising to provide cancer treatment facilities under NRHM, as 11 lakh new cases of cancer are registered in the country and 9 lakh people die due to cancer every year. Dr Singh stressed to bring awareness among the people about the disease.

The Prime Minister also said that besides this hospital government has provided cancer treatment facilities at Sangrur and Hoshiarpur in Punjab. He said that hospital at Mullanpur would provide all type of facilities to cancer patients.

The Hospital to come up at Mullanpur will be based on the national cancer grid system. This will connect multiple cancer centres for a uniform standard treatment of cancer. The hospital will start functioning next year. Punjab government has provided 50 acres of land free of cost for the hospital.
