Brain Tumor :: Invasion of the brain tumors

Gliomas are highly malignant and invasive tumors with tendrils that extend far from the primary tumor site, rendering conventional therapies ineffective and leading to an invariably poor prognosis.

Genome :: Unravelling new complexity in the genome

A major surprise emerging from genome sequencing projects is that humans have a comparable number of protein-coding genes as significantly less complex organisms such as the minute nematode worm Caenorhabditis elegans. Clearly something other than gene count is behind the genetic differences between simpler and more complex life forms.

Brain :: Vision restoration therapy shown to improve brain activity in brain injured patients

Columbia University Medical Center researchers have demonstrated using functional magnetic resonance imaging, that brain activity was increased in stroke and traumatic brain injury survivors who underwent Vision Restoration Therapy, a rehabilitative treatment that helps these patients recover lost vision. The data will be published online in the peer-reviewed journal Neurorehabilitation and Neural Repair on Aug. 14, 2007.
