Tonsils :: Help your child recover after tonsillectomy

If your child just had a tonsillectomy, it may take a few days for her to feel normal and want to eat regularly again. Here are a few tips from the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital on what you should expect before and after the surgery:

For the first two days after surgery, the child should get plenty of rest and drink plenty of water.

Normal activity and energy levels may not return for up to two weeks after surgery.

While the child can eat any foods, it’s normal to not have much appetite for a few days.

A slight fever, nausea and pain are all normal after tonsillectomy. Bleeding or a high fever (more than 101.6 F) are not, so you should contact your doctor if these symptoms appear.
