Sarcoma :: Co-operation between GSF and clinic improves outlook for sarcoma patients

Hyperthermia, combined with chemotherapy, improves the chances of healing and survival of patients with low-lying, soft tissue sarcomas. At the Annual General Meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology in Chicago, the GSF scientist Professor Dr. Rolf D. Issels, presented the results of the first, randomized worldwide phase III study in which the effectiveness and superiority of the combined-therapy methods are proven, in comparison with results from chemotherapy alone.

Hepatitis C :: Study finds variable drug sensitivity among hepatitis C viruses

Chronic infection with the hepatitis C virus (HCV) is the leading reason patients receive liver transplants today. Unfortunately, infection of the new liver by residual HCV in the blood is inevitable, and the immune system suppression crucial to prevent transplant rejection can worsen HCV-mediated disease in transplant patients.
