Heart :: Magnets harmful to heart patients

Heart Rhythm journal reports that close contact with devices using neodymium magnet may destabilise the life-saving heart devices like pacemakers and other implanted heart devices. Noedymium magnets are very strong.

Fridge magnets and decorative jewellery could be a killer if you have a weak heart, Swiss researchers at the University Hospital of Zurich warn. Magnets used in some headphones and computers could pose a deadly risk to heart patients.

The authors suggest manufacturers include a health warning on products.

Ordinary iron or ferrite magnets, which are a dull grey colour with a low magnetic strength, are of little concern.
