Breast Cancer :: MR spectroscopy identifies breast cancer, reduces biopsies

Proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy (¹H MRS) used in conjunction with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) can aid radiologists in diagnosing breast cancer while reducing the number of false-positive results and invasive biopsies, according to a study focusing on non-mass enhancing breast lesions. The study, conducted at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City, appears in the October issue of the journal Radiology.

Cancer :: Discovery of widespread tumor growth gene holds promise for effective anti-cancer treatment

Italian scientists will announce today (Monday September 24) that they have found a new and promising target for anti-tumour therapy in cancer. Professor Saverio Alberti, from the CESI, University of Chieti Foundation, Chieti, will tell the European Cancer Conference (ECCO 14) that he and his team have found a widespread mechanism for the stimulation of tumour growth in man, and that this is leading to the development of novel diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.

Prostate Cancer :: Ontario’s men will be able to have a free PSA test

Ontario’s 2,850,000 men over the age of 40 will be able to have a free PSA test if the Liberals are elected next month. As part of their election health initiative, the Liberals will have OHIP pick up the cost of the test. Currently it costs men in Ontario between $20 and $35 to have the test done.
