Lung Cancer :: Avastin with chemotherapy shows improved progression in lung cancer patients

Genentech, Inc. (NYSE: DNA) announced that a Roche-sponsored Phase III study evaluating two different doses of Avastin(R) (bevacizumab) in combination with gemcitabine and cisplatin chemotherapy met the primary endpoint of prolonging progression-free survival (PFS) in patients with previously untreated, advanced non-squamous, non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), the most common form of the disease.

Lung Cancer :: Modeling lung cancer

In a new report in the February 15th issue of G&D, Dr. Martin McMahon (UCSF) and colleagues present a novel mouse model of non-small cell lung cancer, which will serve as a useful tool to test the efficacy of novel chemotherapeutic drug therapies in the early stages of lung tumorigenesis.

Lung Cancer :: New antibody for EGFR causes lung cancer regression

Mutant forms of the protein EGFR are important for the development of lung cancer in a substantial proportion of individuals with this disease. However, not all individuals express the same mutant EGFR, for example, some have a mutation that affects the intracellular part of EGFR and some have a mutation that affects the extracellular part of EGFR (known as the EGFRvIII mutant).

Lung Cancer :: Combination gene therapy suppresses lung cancer in preclinical test

Combination gene therapy delivered in lipid-based nanoparticles drastically reduces the number and size of human non-small cell lung cancer tumors in mice, researchers at The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center and the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center report in the January 15 edition of Cancer Research.
