A new, large survey supported by the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA) finds that 65 percent of ulcerative colitis patients are less than fully compliant with first-line therapies to treat their disease.The most commonly reported reasons for noncompliance with medications were the dosing frequency, the number of pills and the inconvenience associated with the medication.

Local carbon monoxide poisonings highlight danger

At least 55 cases of carbon monoxide poisoning came to Harborview Medical Center alone following the recent windstorm, highlighting the severe danger from using combustion-based sources of indoor heat. Local health officials urged the public not to use unvented, combustion-based sources of heat or power indoors, such as gas and kerosene heaters, charcoal briquettes or generators.

Breast Cancer :: Efficacy of Pfizer’s Aromasin for early breast cancer

New data from the National Surgical Adjuvant Breast and Bowel Project (NSABP) B-33 study, presented today at the San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium, showed that postmenopausal women with hormone receptor-positive breast cancer who received Aromasin after five years of tamoxifen were 56 percent less likely to have a relapse of breast cancer than those who received placebo.
