HIV :: GSK gives consent for generic version of HIV/AIDS medicine for use in Rwanda

As part of its broad commitment to improving access to medicines, GlaxoSmithKline announced it has given consent through Canada?s Access to Medicines Regime to enable a Canadian company (Apotex) to manufacture a generic fixed dose combination (FDC) antiretroviral (ARV), containing two molecules over which GSK has patent rights (zidovudine and lamivudine) for the treatment of HIV/AIDS in Rwanda.

Concussions are common in young athletes but the underlying changes in brain function that occur have been poorly understood. Now, a University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine study is the first to link changes in brain function directly to the recovery of the athlete. Results of the five-year study, funded by the National Institutes of Health, are published in the August issue of the scientific peer-reviewed journal, Neurosurgery, the official journal of the Congress of Neurological Surgeons.

GlaxoSmithKline (NYSE:GSK), one of the world?s largest vaccine manufacturers, announced that US health agency HHS has placed another order to purchase bulk H5N1 antigen for the US national stockpile of pre-pandemic vaccines. The company also announced the start of the first North American pre-pandemic vaccine trials in the company?s global pre-pandemic influenza program.
