Asthma :: Asthmatic Children at School

If your child has asthma, the National Jewish Medical and Research Center in Denver suggests you make sure the school is properly alerted to your child’s condition:

– Ask your doctor for a written action plan for the school. This should include your child’s asthma medications, emergency telephone numbers, and a list of things that make your child’s asthma worse.

– Give a peak flow meter, spacer and rescue medicine to the school nurse.

– Have your child or a teacher take medicines along on field trips in case of flare-ups.

– Keep in touch with school staff about managing your child’s asthma, even if everything appears to be fine.
