Alzheimer’s Disease :: US prosecutors charge prominent researcher

US prosecutors charged a leading Alzheimer’s researcher yesterday with felony criminal conflict of interest, saying he earned $285,000 in private consulting fees from a drug maker.

In a rare criminal case against a federal scientist, Dr. P. Trey Sunderland III of the National Institutes of Health was accused of performing consulting work for Pfizer that improperly overlapped with his government duties.

NIH officials declined to comment further on Sunderland’s case.
