Progeria – a rare disease that causes premature aging may hold the key to stroke and heart ailments for the general population, British researchers say.
Two scientists have found how a mutated gene is responsible for the extremely rare disease called Progeria that sends its victims into what appears to be old age by the time they are only young teens. There are only 40 known cases.
The researchers discovered that the mutated form of Lamin A cause cells to divide more rapidly, which causes them to die, the process which leads to premature aging.
