HIV :: Indian Govt instructs school to re-admit children affected with HIV

Six HIV positive children who were denied re-admission to a school at Pampady near here will be able continue their studies in the same school from June 18.

The Kerala Government had on Monday ordered the school authorities to give admission the children, in the age group of five to nine years, and warned that if they fail to obey the order, its recogition and registration will be cancelled.

The children, inmates of Asha Kiran, a rehabilitation centre for the AIDS-afflicted, have been studying in Mar Dionysius Lower Primary School since the beginning of 2006 academic year.

In December last, the parents came to know about the children, one boy and five girls hailing from Karnataka, and they asked Headmistress of the school not to permit them in the school, P C Yohanan Ramban, owner of the centre told PTI here.

The Headmistress’ attempts to pacify the parents did not succeed and they were sent out of the school.

Since then they were given given tutions at the centre. At the beginning of this academic year, the children again approached the school authorities, but they were denied admission, he said.
