Medicare :: Hamilton’s Policy on Medicare Part D to increase health care affordability

The Hamilton Project, an initiative at the Brookings Institution, hosted a forum, “Health Care Reconsidered: Options for Change,” today at the Brookings Institution in Washington, D.C. At the event, policy papers on reforming Medicare Part “D” (including closing the “donut hole” gap in prescription drug coverage), improving preventive care and promoting greater affordability through progressive cost-sharing were released by The Hamilton Project.

Herbal :: High arsenic levels in herbal kelp supplements

A study of herbal kelp supplements led by UC Davis public health expert Marc Schenker concludes that its medicinal use may cause inadvertent arsenic poisoning and health dangers for consumers, especially when overused. Schenker and two researchers evaluated nine over-the-counter herbal kelp products and found higher than acceptable arsenic levels in eight of them.

Disabilities :: Disabled hit huge roadblocks in routine health care

People with physical disabilities endure substandard health care and a pervasive sense that they are a burden to doctors, according to a Northwestern University physician who is lead author of a commentary in JAMA.
