Homeopathy :: Few Cured Cases

Homoeopathy is a science totally based on Pathogenesis of the drugs. Pathogenesis is a process by which a disease develops or the development of a disease or of a morbid or pathologic state. If a homoeopathic physician clearly and fully understands the Pathogenesis of various medicinal substances he will not think to go after the Pathology to prescribe for any case of disease in hand and will still be able to CURE the cases even of morbid Pathology. Pathology is the scientific study of the alterations produced by disease.

Hahnemann was very clear in his mind about this difference of Pathogenesis and Pathology (of his time and still the definition stands true), that is why he writes in Organon Aphorism 3: –
“If the physician clearly perceives what is to be cured in diseases, that is to say, in every individual case of disease (knowledge of disease, indication), if he clearly perceives what is curative in medicines, that is to say, in each individual medicine (knowledge of medicinal powers), ..”

In the history of medicine it was only Hahnemann who has put the word CURE into a new light and defined it as under in Organon Aphorism 2: –
“The highest ideal of cure is rapid, gentle and permanent restoration of the health or removal or annihilation of the disease in its whole extent, in shortest, most reliable and most harmless way, on easily comprehensible principles.”

Although the word CURE is also used in the empirical system of medicine but there it stands only for – treated.

During my attachment with homoeopathy for quite long period I have met with various miraculous results from infinitely small doses whenever I succeeded in prescribing them according to the law of similia or their Pathogenesis. Hereunder I am quoting a few examples from my encounter with them: –

1) About 15 years ago one day a lady brought her one and half years old son for treatment. He had a boil with enormous swelling on left side of his external throat. The swelling was so enormous that it was rising higher than the lower jaw, with great tension in the muscles of his face, as such his face was distorted and was a picture of suffering. His mother told that the boil was gathering for about ten days. During this period she did get him treated somewhere else, but with no relief. Seeing such an alarming state I decided to take the risk for two days. I gave two doses of Hepar Sulph. 200 with placebos to be given six hourly; so that he should get Hepar Sulf. at an interval of 24 hours. I asked the lady to report me the next day. Next day when the lady brought him again, there was definite improvement in pain and the tension on his face, as I judged from his face. You know the face is the mirror of the interior of man. I again repeated the same prescription and asked the lady to report the next day. When she came the next day she was very happy, as the child was almost normal. Whole of the swelling was gone. The lady told that the boil burst in the night on its own while the child was asleep and a large quantity of pus was exuded.
The wound was healed up completely within thee days.
In it’s Pathogenesis, Hepar Sulph. promotes suppuration and is one of the most painful remedy. Dr. M. L. Tyler writes – ” Hepar is a first class irritant of temper – nerves and tissues – till the prover is distraught by a word – a touch – so hypersensitive is he to environment physical and mental. And, of course, it is just this touchiness and hypersensitiveness that provide a clue to the employment of Hepar in many diseases.”
Dr. Farrington says – “Hepar promotes and regulates suppuration in a remarkable manner.”
Dr. Nash writes – “..But if pus is already formed, it will hasten the pointing and discharge and help along the healing of the ulcer afterwards..”

In respect of toothaches of all kinds there are a number of remedies, which have different kinds of toothaches in their pathogenesis. Hereunder I am quoting two cases from my practice to show how quickly the homoeopathic remedies remove the pain and cure the underlying cause of the toothache: –

i) Mr. V. K. N. age 50 years, working as a Director in a Central Department came to me on 22-08-1983. At that the departmental dispensaries were under his control where six doctors were employed. On his visit he told me that he was suffering from severe toothache for about a month. For about fifteen days he got himself treated by the departmental doctors and thereafter for about another fifteen day he was taking treatment from a reputed dentist of the city, but all with no much avail. On 22-08-1983 too he was suffering with intolerable pain. On examination it was found that his right lower premolar had a large cavity which was reaching to the root. The pain was intolerable even while he was regularly taking antibiotics and the painkillers. His face was tense with pain. Somebody who had faith in homoeopathic medicines had referred him to me with an assurance that he will get instant relief. On seeing his condition I felt it to be a case of Chamomilla. So after cleaning the cavity I put a small swab moistened in 1M dilution of Chamomilla. Immediately I felt that the tenseness of the face reduced. Within two minutes he himself told that there is about 25% relief. I gave him a dose of the same remedy with few doses of placebo and asked him to take the marked (marked with an X) dose if the pain relapses again otherwise follow with unmarked doses 4 to 6 hourly. And asked him to report if he finds no relief. On the third day he told me that the pain had vanished by the time he reached his residence which was about 5 minutes away from my clinic by car. The pain did not return again though he did not get the tooth extracted as I had advised him.
About Chamomilla Dr. M. L. Tyler in her “Drug pictures” says that Chamomilla is the ” out of proportion” drugs. …. Chamomilla has pain out of proportion (such as pains of labor – toothache – rheumatism, etc.).
Dr. Clarke in his “Dictionary of Practical Materia Medica” writes about toothache – The pains are commonly drawing and pulling, or pulsative and shooting, or searching and gnawing in the hollow teeth, …”

ii) In 1991 Mr. R .. aged 26 yeas, had a cavity in his upper left premolar, in which he was feeling pain, extending to the eye. He had consulted a Dentist who suspected infection in the tooth and had given antibiotics and strong painkiller. The patient found only temporary relief. Because, as soon as the effect of the painkiller used to wear out the pain used to relapse with more intensity. The pain used to be so severe and was felt in left eye that holding his hands on left eye he used to start jumping/dancing in the open air. By doing so he used to feel some relief in the pain. The pain was stitching and used to get worse in the evening.
At this stage he sought my help. On looking into Kent’s Repertory in the section Teeth, pain stitching, extending to eyes the following remedies were found:
Bovista; Calcarea Carb., Natrum Mur. and Sulphur
On looking in Clarke’s Dictionary of Practical Materia Medica I found under Bovista – “Drawing odontalgia, especially in the hollow teeth, in evening and at night, mitigated by heat and walking in the open air. – Piercing and digging in teeth. ..”
Bovista 30 was prescribed, just after a few minutes after taking the first dose of the medicine, the patient went to natural sleep. And, when he awoke after a few hours there was no trace of toothache. The pain did not relapse thereafter.
You see the Repertory is the compilation of the Pathogenesis of the remedies in alphabetical order Section wise for easy reference in the form of Rubrics. It is a very handy and easy reference book for those who keep themselves in touch with the detailed Homoeopathic Materia Medica as I have experienced.

iii) A case of ulceration in mouth from eating sweets or sugar: –
As far as I know, there is no pathological explanation for the formation of ulcers in the mouth caused by eating anything sweet. But on the basis of Pathogenesis the following case was CURED.
Mrs. S .. aged 47 years came to me on 27-05-1996. She had the following symptoms: –
. Craving for sweets, but, eating anything sweet, even sugared tea used to cause her burning on the tip of the tongue, inside lower lip, in the oesophagus and even in the stomach as by ulcers.
. Acidity -burning in stomach.
. Sour eructations and pyrosis.
. Loss of appetite.
. Thirst by tying up tightly.
. Apprehension; fear and fright on sudden emotions.
. Forgetfulness.
. Temperament irritable.
Argentum Nitricum 200 at long intervals alone CURED her within a moth’s time.
About the Pathogenesis of Argentum Nitricum Dr. Kent says, “Arg. Nit. is full of ulceration – especially on internal parts, and mucous membranes. . . . Desires sugar: feels he must have it and it makes him sick.”
“Headache relieved by binding something tightly around head.” (Allen’s Encyclopaedia).
“Arg. Nit. has irresistible desire for sugar, which at the same time aggravates.” (Clarke’s Dictionary).
