The University of Alberta and RSC: The Academies (formerly the Royal Society of Canada) will host an international, interdisciplinary conference addressing the features of local and global cultures that encourage and impede women’s active, creative and critical participation in the knowledge economy.
?Rooms of Their Own: Women in the Knowledge Economy and Society? will run from Wednesday, May 2 to Friday, May 4 at the Telus Centre on the University of Alberta campus in Edmonton, Canada.
The event will bring together leading academics, artists, scientists, businesspeople and politicians from around the world to discuss their vision for the role of women in the knowledge society. It will examine the situation of women within and beyond the academy to heighten awareness, extend knowledge, and form practical recommendations.
Prominent Canadian women such as filmmaker Anne Wheeler, former Deputy Prime Minister Anne McLellan and Senator Lillian Dyck will be among the over 45 presenters from 11 countries as diverse as India, Iran, Uganda, Palestine, Italy and Egypt.
The three-day conference will involve in-depth discussions and artistic events exploring the idea of how women shape and will continue to shape our world, from the classroom to the boardroom, from the lab to the theatre?and beyond.
