The father of homoeopathy Christian Friedrich Samuel Hahnemann reverently known as Hahnemann in the homoeopathic world was the fist physician who introduced the importance of VITAL FORCE in the field of medicine. He defines it in Aphorism No. 9 of his book ?Organon of Medicine? in the following words:
In the healthy condition of man, the spiritual vital force (autocracy), the dynamis that animates the material body (organism), rules with unbounded sway, and retains all the parts of the organism in admirable, harmonious, vital operation, as regards both sensations and functions, so that our indwelling, reason-gifted mind can freely employ this living, healthy instrument for the higher purposes of our existence.
When I deeply meditated upon this statement it dawned on me that when I was born like all other babies my height was hardly one and half feet with tiny organs and was weighing between six to seven pounds. Then my body grew slowly and steadily attaining a height of five feet five inches with all my organs proportionately growing to the organs like any other grown up man and a weight of sixty kilograms. Everything ? bones, tissues, muscles, arteries, veins etc. etc. grew accordingly. But I never perceived how and when all this growth has taken place. Not to say of the physical organism only, the intellect also developed to the present status.
Now the main question is: How all this growth and development occurred? Or what is that which governs all this growth and development?
Dear reader have you ever meditated upon this question?
It is some self sufficient self acting energy like thing or a kind of spirit which performs all the feat of growth and development of the body and mind absolutely automatically.
When this spirit like energy governs and controls all the growth and the development of the organism and the mind silently with perfection during our well being i. e. during our health; is it not possible that the same spirit like energy shall be able to restore the health if we become ill in the body or the mind?
Now let us consider what is disease?
It is a scientific fact that any energy can only be affected by another similar or inimical somewhat stronger energy. For example when a stronger magnet is brought in close proximity of a weaker magnet it looses its own properties and starts behaving like the former. There are various kinds of energies in nature which are inimical to life, whenever the life force of someone become weak due to various factors, it is affected by some morbid energy and the person becomes sick. The normal processes of life gradually become deviated and the person starts feeling unusual sensations and feelings, his mental setup also become abnormal. In short unusual changes are noted in whole of the personality of the individual. What I feel these unusual sensations and feeling are the SOS of the life force for a particular nature of help.
Hahnemann writes in his Organon Aphor.16 as follows:
Our vital force, as a spirit-like dynamis, cannot be attacked and affected by injurious influences on the healthy organism caused by the external inimical forces that disturb the harmonious play of life, otherwise than in a spirit-like (dynamic) way, and in like manner, all such morbid derangements (diseases) cannot be removed from it by the physician in any other way than by the spirit-like {dynamic [Most severe disease may be produced by sufficient disturbance of the vital force through the imagination and also cured by the same means.], virtual} alterative powers of the serviceable medicines acting upon our spirit-like vital force, which perceives them through the medium of the sentient faculty of the nerves everywhere present in the organism, so that it is only by their dynamic action on the vital force that remedies are able to re-establish and do actually re-establish health and vital harmony, after the changes in the health of the patient cognizable by our senses (the totality of the symptoms) have revealed the disease to the carefully observing and investigating physician as fully as was requisite in order to enable him to cure it.
Therefore, as I stated above that the SOS of the life force i. e. totality of the symptoms as Hahnemann termed, reveals to the unprejudiced physician what kind of help is to be supplied so that the disorder of the life force or the influence of the morbid energy on life force be removed in a gentle manner so that the life force may regain its natural order again.
Now, the question is, if the vital force resumes its normal processes of life will it not be able to bring the functioning of all the parts of the organism to their normal healthy state thus dissolving the morbid growths, inflammations, calculi which had formed in some one or the other organ during the abnormal state of the vital force under the influence of some morbid energy?
In practice it has been seen that various kinds of growths such as fibroids, lumpy growths of different designations, lypomas, polypi, renal calculi, cholelithiasis, etc., etc. and even cancerous (not only benign but the malignant) growths also have dissolved when properly indicated dynamic help was provided to the patients; in other word when the SOS of the vital force was properly deciphered and the required help was provided in the dynamic doses.
It has also been seen that the after effects of various injuries by physical and mental trauma, carbuncles, different kinds of boils, exanthematous diseases, obstinate and typhoid fevers, different kinds of convulsions/epilepsy etc. healed leaving no sequel whatsoever whenever the SOS was interpreted correctly and the indicated homoeopathic help was provided.
In present era when various kinds of sophisticated electronic gadgets have been invented to find out the minutest pathological and physiological changes due to the diseases; can through any such gadget is it possible to find out the sensations and feelings of any individual? If it has become possible to find out the desires and aversions of an individual by any sophisticated implement? Can any machine find out the susceptibility to the changes of weather, heat and cold in different individual persons? Has the science of today developed any machine which can measure the sensibility and the sensitivity of different human beings? Can any gadget measure the degrees of love, affection, hate, pleasure, sadness, anger, etc. etc,?
When I use the word personality in place of symptom totality for one whole individual in sickness or the picture of a remedy, I have in my mind all the qualities as asked in above questions.
A man can be so sensible that a simple word may get offended very deeply or can be so dull that a severe scolding, abusing and even thrashing may not affect him much. An individual may be very sensitive to the atmospheric changes like mercury while another person may not be affected even by strong changes.
There are numerous variations in human live pathology I mean the symptoms of various kinds during sickness which are felt by human mind and can be properly expressed to others.
A sick person may not even let anybody touch the painful part while he will like to lie on the same painful part. In an individual a paralyzed part may be absolutely senseless while in other person his paralyzed part may be extremely sensitive.
In case of pain every sick individual may feel its sensation differently.
In the light of all the above questions the personalities of any two individuals suffering from so called a certain disease may differ greatly. Similarly the pathogenesis or the personality of each individual remedy is altogether different from any other remedy.
The difference and the beauty of the law similia i. e. homoeopathy lies in study of health, sickness and the remedy as personalities. This is the main feature where homoeopathy differs from all other systems of treatments.
Let us come to the main point again. It is the spirit like vital force which is responsible for the growth and maintenance of the health of the organism during healthy state, during the sickness the same spirit like vital force makes itself known the nature of help it is in need of through various kinds of morbid sensations and feelings and at some later stage through morbid pathology. It is this spirit like vital force itself through which the unprejudiced and observant medical scientist who can find out the pathogenesis of the drugs by proving on healthy individuals.
It has been seen in practice of homoeopathic system that on the basis of the similarity of the personality of the sickness and the remedy as stated earlier, a remedy is prescribed. The properly indicated remedy in dynamic form stimulates the life force or the vital force of the patient in such a manner that the disorder of the vital force gets removed and the same gets restored to its normal/natural state, thus the processes and functioning of the of life again restored to their natural form. The growths like tumors, fibroids, scirrhous, induration of various glands, other glandular diseases, various kinds of ulcers, different kinds of cancers, various chronic diseases like rheumatic troubles, asthmatic troubles, epilepsy, renal and gall bladder calculi, migraines, hyperacidity, various kinds of skin diseases etc., etc. and even various mental diseases, depression etc. and many other diseases termed as incurable have been cured. Cured means complete removal of the disease as defined by the father of homoeopthy Dr. Hahnemann in Aphorism No. 2 in his Organon.
The highest ideal of cure is rapid, gentle and permanent restoration of the health, or removal and annihilation of the disease in its whole extent, in the shortest, most reliable, and most harmless way, on easily comprehensible principles.
Whole of the homoeopathic science is based on the natural laws which are universal laws, whoever attempts to treat the patients according to these laws, finds them absolutely true irrespective of time and the place. I myself is trying to follow the laws, though I can not claim that I have mastered these laws of cure and practicing them strictly as Dr. Hahnemann has revealed them, yet, as far I understood and could follow them in practice I am finding them true in this era of great scientific advancement. I am fully convinced of the efficacy of the infinitely minute doses of homoeopathic medicines when prescribed singly. The results themselves show how the restoration of order in the vital force brings out the cure. As a proof of the outcome of my little knowledge of the laws and their application I have prepared so far four video CDs of some of the results I achieved in varied kinds of cases during my clinical practice these include acute, chronic and even cancer cases.
Thus the vital force is the real Hero in the body which governs and manages all the functions and processes of life in the body during health, sickness or while one is under the effects the drugs.
