Train accident in U.P. – claimed 28 lives and several injured

In Uttar Pradesh, both Up and Down lines and the third main track have been opened for normal movement of trains at Chureb railway station on Lucknow Gorakhpur rail section where traffic was disrupted for two days after the Gorakhdham Express train accident in Sant Kabir Nagar district. The accident has claimed at least 28 lives and left several injured.

Quoting official sources, AIR Allahabad Correspondent reports that newly appointed Union Minister of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Kalraj Mishra and Minister of State for Railways, Manoj Sinha today visited the accident site and directed the officials for effective rescue and relief operations and providing better treatment to the injured.

The railways have enhanced its financial assistance from 1 lakh to two lakh rupees to the next of kin of the dead. One lakh rupees will be given to each seriously injured passenger and 20 thousand to those who have received minor injuries.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also announced an ex-gratia of two lakh rupees each to the kin of those killed and 50 thousand rupees each to those seriously injured. The Chief Minister of the state, Akhilesh Yadav has announced financial assistance of five lakh rupees to the families of deceased and 50 thousand to the injured.

President of India condoles the loss of lives in a train accident in Uttar Pradesh

The President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee has condoled the loss of lives in the train accident near Khalilabad in Uttar Pradesh today (May 26, 2014).

In a message to Shri B.L. Joshi, Governor of Uttar Pradesh, the President has said “I am saddened to learn about the train accident in which a number of persons lost their lives and some were injured near Khalilabad in Uttar Pradesh.

I am sure that the State Government and other agencies are taking necessary steps to provide urgent medical assistance to the injured and all possible aid to the bereaved families, who have lost their near and dear ones.”

VICE PRESIDENT EXPRESSES GRIEF OVER LOSS OF LIVES IN TRAIN ACCIDENT IN SANT KABIR NAGAR

Following is the text of Statement by the Vice President of India Shri M. Hamid Ansari expressing grief over loss of lives in the train accident at Chureb railway station in Sant Kabir Nagar (Uttar Pradesh) today :

“I am deeply grieved and shocked at the tragic loss of life and injuries to passengers resulting from the accident of the Gorakhdham Express train that took place at Chureb railway station in Sant Kabir Nagar (U.P.) earlier today.

I convey my heartfelt condolences to the members of the bereaved families and pray to the Almighty to give them strength and fortitude to withstand this immense loss. I also wish speedy recovery to the injured passengers.”
