Stress :: How to reduce STRESS?

We live in times when stress has become part of our physical existence. Stress oriented problems like hypertension, heart disease, diabetes, various kinds of ulcers and even spondylosis are increasing by the day. Stress is normally different from what we consider as disease: for it has no biological structure as in the case germs and virus. It cannot be cultivated or observed under a microscope. Rightly so modern drugs and methods have failed in producing a cure for health problems related to stress. At the most it has been able to provide temporary relief from some symptoms.

Dr. Hans Selye -Endocrinologist (University of Prague) defined stress as a nonspecific response of the body, the primary function of which is to prepare the body for physical activity such as fight or flight. In his attempt to reach the expected standard of living, man, in the fast moving social setup is swept in the stream of great speed, both physically and mentally. The speed has not limited itself to the level where he can be most efficient in his mental and physical capabilities but has moved further to ungovernable and unmanageable levels.

Continuous stressful condition creates problems in our body. Depending upon hereditary factors one may suffer from hypertension, the other may be diabetic. A holistic approach of Yoga has been found very useful in treating and preventing stress related problems. With the help of Shuddhikriyas, Asanas, Pranayama and Dhyana stressrelated problems of the present-day individuals can be treated with great success.
