Smoking :: Tobacco Control Inspectors help public to adapt to smoke-free changes – Hong Kong

Tobacco Control Inspectors (TCIs) of the Tobacco Control Office (TCO) under the Department of Health carried out operations throughout the New Year Eve and the New Year to help members of the public and venue managers adapt to the legislative changes of a smoke-free environment.

A TCO spokesman said this (January 1) morning that TCIs reminded members of the public to abide by the smoking ban while enjoying the festive mood and advised venue managers to provide a smoke-free environment to their staff and customers during visits to premises of different nature and sizes.

Amendments in the Smoking (Public Health) Ordinance allowed extension of the smoking ban to a vast majority of indoor areas from today. Members of the public may visit the TCO website http://www.tco.gov.hk for details of the amendments.

He said that TCIs would continue their operations to promote a smoke-free environment and the new legislative requirements.
