Pregnancy :: Lean and fit mums have healthier babies

Women who had more body fat during their pregnancy or are overweight tended to have fatter babies, revealed by British researchers. The study based on information gathered from 448 women before and during pregnancy.

Most important finding of the study by Cooper and his colleagues at the University of Southampton highlighted the high birthweight of babies to an increased risk of obesity later in life.

The new findings of the study suggest that there are things women can do to foster a healthy body composition in their children even before they’re born, along with not smoking, women should exercise regularly and maintain a healthy weight through a balanced diet before and during pregnancy.

The study published in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism.
