Molluscum contagiosum :: Molluscum contagiosum and ZymaDerm

Molluscum contagiosum is a common childhood illness with an estimated prevalence of 1/200 in the 1-10 y/o age group, and is epidemic as a sexually transmitted disease among sexually active adults.

All current treatment options for molluscum are invasive, requiring curettage, freezing, or burning. These options involve pain and discomfort to the child and accompanying distress to the parent.

Often, no treatment is recommended to parents, the assurance being given that the bumps are harmless and eventually will go away. However, lesions often spread, covering large portions of the body where they may persist for up to two years. In addition, scarring can occur.

Center for Biomedical Research, Inc have developed ZymaDerm (formerly named Virucide): a safe, natural, topical agent to aid in the treatment of molluscum.

Zymaderm is not available in India.
