Homeopathy :: In brief about homeopathic science

From the last few years the number of people using homoeopathic medicine has increase tremendously. But there are still many misunderstanding about homoeopathic medicines and the way in which it works. I have tried in an easy way to explain you how these medicines can be used safely and effectively. For minor complaints these medicines can be used safely at home if the problem is reoccurring again and again then you must consult homoeopathic doctor.

Homoeopathy is holistic form of medicines. In treating the diseases it takes into account the mental and physical symptoms of an individual.

Homoeopathic medicine work by helping the body’s defense system to help itself. The principle of homoeopathy is “like can cure like” – that is an illness should be treated by a substance capable of producing similar symptoms to those being suffered by the patient is the basis of homoeopathy.

The founder of homoeopathy, Dr. Samuel Hahnemann was born in Dresden in Germany on 10th April 1755, he was spared a long and useful life of 88 years, during which he benefited humanity immensely by introducing this new system of medicine. He first graduate in medicine and practiced for several years becoming very successful and famous.

Even in those days Cinchona from which Quinine is derived, was popular for its specific curative effect in Malaria. Hahnemann in an attempt to discover its true mode of action himself ingested some cinchona where upon he was surprise to notice that it produced in himself fever and chill, resembling Malaria. This unexpected result set up in his mind a new train of thoughts and he conducted similar experiments with other well-known drugs. To his surprise every drug produced in his healthy body the same symptoms, which it was reputed to remove from sick persons. So he was lead to the inference that what a drug cures in the sick it causes in the healthy. He, therefore put forward the new principle of treatment “Similia Simlibus Curanture”, which means “let likes be treated by likes”.

Applying this principle in practice to know what a drug can cure, we have to merely find out what it can cause. This can be done by administering it to a healthy human beings and noting down its effects. Hahnemann adopting this principle cured innumerable cases.

Hahnemann had difficulty understanding how remedies worked. He had discovered that the higher the dilution level, or potency of a remedy the more effective its cure would be.

He reasoned that there must be some kind of subtle energy within the body that responded to the tiny provocations of the remedies and enabled the body heal itself.

Hahnemann called this energy the body’s “vital force”. This is the force or energy responsible for the healthy running of the body coordinating its defense against disease. If this force is disturbed by stress, a poor diet, lack of exercise, hereditary problems or environmental changes, then illness results. The symptoms of illness are the outward manifestation of the vital forces attempt to redress the imbalance and restore order.

Homoeopaths classify illness as acute or chronic. In acute, self-limiting illness, such as cold, a person become ill rapidly, the illness runs its course and then cleans up on its own, with or without treatment. By contrast, in chronic illness a person suffers from continued or recurrent illness, for example, recurrent infections or degenerative diseases, such as arthritis.

Homoeopathic remedies energize the vital force to rid the body of dieses, helping it to return to its healthy state, to ensure that the vital force responds in the most effective manner, homoeopath must choose a remedy that matches as accurately as possible the symptoms picture. This is why a homoeopathic assessment takes into account a person’s character, stress levels, life style, level of exercise, diet, food preference, family medical history and the effects of general factors such as the weather, to provide a unique symptoms pictures. Pin pointing the strengths and weaknesses of an individual enable to a homoeopath to prescribe the best remedy and to decide which potency is suitable.

Hahnemann observed that some people, prone to frequent, acute complaints, always, seemed to acquire new symptoms and were never totally healthy. He concluded that there must be a deep-seated weakness, or “miasm ” that blocked the remedy. In homoeopathy, a miasm is the chronic effect of an underlying disease that has been present in previous generation or an individual.
