The Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions and the American College of Cardiology announced today that they will hold a unified interventional cardiology meeting in Chicago, March 29-April 1, 2008. The meeting will be known as “The SCAI Annual Scientific Sessions in Partnership with ACC i2 Summit.” It will be held concomitantly with the ACC Annual Scientific Session.
The new joint meeting will deliver current and cutting-edge interventional science through innovative methods, aiming to educate and guide interventionalist and cardiac care team members to the next level. The meeting will emphasize the translation of evidence-based science and clinical trial data into daily interventional practice.
?SCAI and ACC share the goal of delivering the highest-quality education in interventional cardiology to both interventional and non-interventional cardiologists,? says SCAI President Dr. Bonnie Weiner, professor of medicine and interim chair of cardiovascular medicine at St. Vincent Hospital at Worcester Medical Center in Worcester, MA. ?We are working together to develop a meeting that provides the medical community with a comprehensive educational program that is directly relevant to the delivery of optimal patient care.?
The meeting will be co-chaired by Dr. Ted Feldman, director of the cardiac catheterization laboratory at Evanston Hospital and a professor of medicine at Northwestern University Medical School in Chicago, and Dr. David R. Holmes, the Scripps Professor of Cardiovascular Medicine and a professor of medicine at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. A team of interventional cardiologists representing both organizations will develop an educational program featuring late-breaking clinical trials, case-based education, and analysis of advances in treating diseases of the coronary, vascular, and peripheral vessels as well as pediatric and structural heart disease.
