Heart Failure :: Healthy heart study – living with chronic heart failure

Dr. Angela Clark, associate professor of nursing at The University of Texas at Austin, is conducting a new study to help people living with chronic heart failure, an illness which affects five million people in the United States. Clark says an estimated one-third to one-half of hospital re-admissions for chronic heart failure could be prevented with better education about symptoms, medications and diet.

Her study, funded by the National Institutes of Health, centers around in-home teaching sessions on diet, possible side effects and schedules of medications, symptom management, management of emergencies, stress management, exercise, health attitudes and positive thinking. Clark , a past president of the American Heart Association, Capital Area Division, specializes in cardiovascular health and illness and diabetes care. She also is past president of the National Association of Clinical Nurse Specialists.
